LSD, the scourge of the '60's, has returned as one of the horrors
of today's young adults. Here is a frightening depiction of an acid trip in one act. But like our
other awareness plays this one grabs the attention of the audience before it turns on the warning.
It begins by capturing the youthful audience. And thenthey see what happens when all the
glamorous lure is stripped naked. This is what LSD will do to you!The story: Alice is given a
sliver of LSD-soaked paper by a "friend" at a party. At home alone in her bedroom she knows she
shouldn't put it in her mouth, but her curiosity is overwhelming.Little by little the drug takes
effect. As she hallucinates, a toy bunny rabbit on her bed comes to life and taunts her and leads
her on a trip. But this adventure in wonderland doesn't have tea parties and croquet games. It has
horror. And it may save a life.
Greg West, the author, is a health education teacher and drama
director who has worked with young people of all ages in varied educational settings.
For
adult and young adult audiences (it's NOT a children's play). Objectional material may be changed
to suit the situation. The set is Alice's bedroom; costumes are modern.
"This play
is a riveting educational experience of LSD, alcohol abuse, and codependency."Donna Moore,
BYU Children's Book Review
