Two old maid aunts run an antique shop which they appropriately
call "The Auntiques." Life has not been unkind to Mandy and Flobut then it hasn't overburdened
them with happiness either. Somehow or other, love has passed them by. But nowit's Valentine's
Day, and an unaddressed Valentine mysteriously appears in their shop...signed simply, "Al." And so
this becomes the most exciting day Mandy and Flo have experienced in a long, long time. Who is the
mysterious "Al"? Which of the sisters was the card meant for? Is romance ringing the door bell at
last? This pleasant little comedy is for audiences and actors of all ages. The two sisters
are excellent character parts for adult, high school, or junior high actresses. The other roles,
although small, are not "bit parts" by any means; each person has a distinct personality and
contributes significantly to the plot and action.
The customers who enter during the interlude
between Scenes 1 and 2 of this one-act make it possible to enlarge the cast to almost any number
of males and females; or only two or three customers, perhaps doubled by other characters, can keep
the cast small for touring, or for theatres that need small casts for other reasons. The set is a
shop interior; present time; modern costumes.
Because of the enthusiastic response to The
Auntiques and the Valentine Card, we asked John Tissot for more of the adventures of Mandy and
Flo, the lovably comical spinster aunts, and their antique store. The three plays in
The Auntiques Won't Go Away are the result.
