Blues is a one-act about the homeless. Where do they come from?
Did they once have homes...like you? Have you ever thought what stands between you and life under a
bridge, in a cardboard box? People who have nowhere to go when it's bed time show you and your audiences
what to do when your time comes...in Jerome McDonough's disquieting style that makes us so acutely
aware of the problems of people in distress. The play takes place on a vacant lot, where street people
sometimes gather if it isn't too cold. Will you ever be one of them? It could never happen to you...could
it? Blues is a sort of "Handbook for the Future Homeless."For audiences of adults and young
adults and everybody else who can't be sure what the future holds."Sterling City's performance
here last night at the Theatre Festival left the entire auditorium in tears, clapping, and yelling,
when its production of Blues ended. Even the judge cried...it was one of the most inspiring
tumultuously received plays we've ever done, equaled maybe only by Jerome's
Addict, performed three years ago."Patty Miller, Sterling City, Texas, High School.
Set: a somber gathering spot for poorly-dressed homeless people. Time: the present. Blues
was previewed with a performance at the Texas Educational Theatre Association convention in Houston in
1990, by the Fox Technical Little Theatre of San Antonio.
