The time of this frank, no-punches-pulled play is right now. The place:
"So nearby it will scare you to death." Jerome McDonough calls this "The most tragic and
the most desperately needed play I have ever written." Carriers of sexually transmitted infections
are primarily in the 15 to 24-year-old age group. HIV carriers used to be almost exclusively an
"unknown group" that the public did not want to recognize as a problem. Today it may be the kid in the
next desk. There is no cure for AIDSand the best prevention is fear. Carriers is a
face-the-facts play designed to instill fear in young adult audiences. Without obscenities, but with
realistic language, Jerome McDonough presents the case against the spread of AIDS forcefully and frankly.
This play will save lives. The fear of AIDS must be made stronger than the fear of
ridicule and rejection by macho/immoral peers and classmates. Carriers can do it.
"I have been a Drama teacher and Director here at Wilson High for 22 years and I feel 'Carriers'
could easily be the most important show I've ever directed. I don't want to lose any of my children, or
my students."Randy Bowden, Wilson H. S., Long Beach, Calif. One act; simple set and
costumes.
