KT Curran and her
SOURCE Teen Theatre developed this perceptive view of early adolescence and toured
it through southern Florida. The play encourages young people to make healthy decisions. The
playbook includes a study guide with activities for middle school teachers to conduct with
their students. With virtually a bare stage, the play is ideal for high school drama groups to
tour to middle and upper elementary schools, or for presentation by middle school students for
their peers.
Ms. Curran said, "Innovative theatre allows a breakdown of communication barriers so that
we can reach adolescents at an early age and encourage them to think for themselves in ways that serve
their best interests. When one identifies with the situation and relates to the issues on a personal
level, responsibility follows."
The characters in the play are two high school students,
a junior and a senior, watching the activities of four middle school studentsemerging teenagersand
trying to advise them and guide them. The play lends itself to pre-performance and post-performance
discussions and activities.
