Any combination of two, three, or all four of the short plays in this
anthology makes a lively full-length program. All four are suitable for adults and young adults.
The plays are The Lamentable Affair of the Vicar's Wife (2 women) by Guida M. Jacksona
30-minute comedy about an upright housewife who does something she shouldn't. Jennifer's First
Christmas (1m, 1w) by Ev Millera 25-minute humorously moving play about a lonely man and the
ambitious young woman he invites to spend Christmas Eve with him. Exeunt O'Brien and Krasnov
(1m, 1w) by Hindi Brooksa 20-minute comedy about a Broadway theatre's cleaning woman who dreams
of being a famous actress, and the has-been actor who eggs her on. A Portrait of Portia (1m, 2w)
by S. V. Gersovitza 35-minute drama about a wealthy widow who commissions a young artist to paint
a portraitwith surprising results.Guida Jackson lives in The Woodlands, Texas. Her
play has been toured for nine consecutive years by The Country Playhouse, Houston's oldest community
theatre (est. 1956). A full-length version of the play is available in manuscript. Ev Miller,
author of the popular Close The Door So It Can't Get In Your Room
and other plays, is a native of Bismarck, North Dakota. Jennifer's First Christmas, like several
of his other plays, first came to public attention as the winner of the National One-Act Playwriting
Contest. It was first produced by the Dubuque, Iowa, Fine Arts Players. Hindi Brooks, who
lives in Santa Monica, California, is a full-time professional author with many popular TV shows to
her credit and four plays published by Clark. (Captain Noah,

Exeunt O'Brien and Krasnov has been produced by several Los Angeles area professional theatres
and was included in the 1987 Los Angeles Theatre Festival. Variety called it a "light, frothy
little comedy...thoroughly professional." The Los Angeles Times said, "In 'Exuent O'Brien'...Hindi
Brooks has proven herself again as a capable and interesting playwright with a fine sense of
observation...[The play is] refreshingly artful and touching." S. V. Gersovitz divides her
time between painting and playwriting in Montreal, where she has written 14 plays, eight of which are
about art and artists. She has won nine playwriting awards. Her art work currently appears in
approximately 80 public and corporate collections throughout the world. A Portrait of Portia
reveals her intimate knowledge of artists and their patrons.
