Synopsis

What's the surest way to develop a beauty-contest winner? Create your own beauty. And who could be better qualified for the job than a member of the Frankenstein family! With nearly two centuries of people-making as his heritage, Dr. Victor Frankenstein the Fourth— great-great-grandson of the original—could hardly fail. And he doesn't. But instead of creating a monster, he manufactures the most beautiful woman in the world. Physically, that is. Mentally?...well... she's like a new-born baby. Dr. Frankenstein hires two tutors, a former model and a former Shakesperean actress. The way Aurora Dawn learns by imitating them is hilarious.

The eccentric teachers try to teach her to walk fetchingly, talk seductively, smile perpetually, applaud loudly for her enemies, and fool the judges. And while all this is going on, a flirtatious Russian spy tries to steal the secret of her creation. Did we say "spy"? Well, not exactly. As she says, "Who needs spies in America? Just send a news reporter and everybody will tell everything." A "hobo" of a professional football coach; Dr. Frankenstein's ubiquitous servant, Igor, who likes to tell Swiss jokes; and Tillie Talbot, who owns a tamale factory, round out the cast.

Eddie Cope has created a delicious spoof of the beauty contest— oops, we mean scholarship pageant—that provides fun roles for actors and delightful entertainment for audiences.

Two acts; simple interior set, the lobby of a resort hotel; time, the present; modern clothes. For family audiences.

Other Cope plays: Agatha Christie Made Me Do It, Agatha Christie Tackles Texas, Airport 1904, Don't Print That, The Invisible Man, The Last Tango in Pango Pango, Without a Clue
