George M. Cohan's best-loved show tunes combined with a sparkling story
add up to an entertaining, charming, toe-tapping musical. Entrepreneur Dick Foster is struggling to
open a Broadway show, but finances and his temperamental leading lady present insurmountable problems.
Enter Mary Collins, an aspiring actress from New Rochelle. In true Broadway-romance style, an "angel"
appears at the last moment, Mary gets her chance at stardom, and everybody lives happily ever after.
Fascinating character roles, chorus girls, gangsters, and, of course, the music of "Mr. Yankee
Doodle Dandy" himself can't help but result in a box-office bonanza. The set (mostly an empty stage)
is simple, and the cast is flexible, with a chorus of any size and optional choreography.
