ONE-ACT PLAYS FOR CHILDREN
Playwright
KATHLEEN SCHURMAN O'CONNOR
Synopsis

This collection of plays will delight children of all ages. Kathleen Schurman-O'Connor has written four plays about real children in real situations and one play about fictional children in a fairyland kingdom. Not only will child audiences enjoy the plays for their humor, but they will also relate to the plays because of Schurman-O'Connor's unique ability to see the world from a child's point of view.

In BILLY'S PROBLEM, Billy breaks a window. He tries to tell his father, mother, and grandfather about the accident; but they are too wrapped up in their own activities to listen to him. And then, when the damage is discovered, they punish him for not telling them. 5m, 4w, and 1 of either gender

GHOUL SCOUT CAMP shows a bunch of young girls camping outdoors and telling spooky stories around the campfire. 11w

AT THE BUS STOP is a play about a lonely, strange kid named Ian who is befriended by the other kids at his bus stop. When some older schoolmates say dirty things about Ian's parents, the kids from the bus stop rush to his defense and get into a fight with the bullies. Two of the fighting kids' mothers punish them, but an understanding mother rewards her children for standing up for Ian. 5m, 6w

GRANDMA RUSNAK has to baby-sit her ten grandchildren by herself. The kids don't always get along with one another. How does Grandma manage to control all those grandchildren? Has she finally had enough? 3m, 9w

THE WIZARD OF ZOZ is a fantasy about a king and queen who promise to give their twin daughters to three witches in exchange for peace in the kingdom. They later regret this promise. The princesses learn about their parents' promise, and the wizard tries to help break the spell, but he has lost his magic crystal. They learn that the magic crystal is guarded by a dragon called the Zar of Zoz. Can the royal family and the wizard get the crystal back in time to save the two princesses? 3m, 7w

The plays may be presented separately or in any combination. The first four plays, present time, require a bare set with only a few, essential pieces. Of course, a more detailed set may be used if desired. The Wizard of Zoz allows you to be as simple or as spectacular as your imagination and budget allow for a fantasy set long ago.
