Do crime and violence and prejudice begin in the home? Here is a
family togetherness play for community theatres and churches, and for schools which have not expelled
God. A familytwo children, their mother and dad, and their grandpahave a Family Bible Time
each evening. In simple language the parents explain the meaning of each Commandment. The children
ask questions and sometimes argue about the meaning and how to obey. If all parents were like the
parents in this play, most of the violence and hatred and prejudice in our world would go away.
"The father of one of my Sunday School Students asked me to write a book about what I was
teaching in Sunday School. He was a young Christian who had little knowledge of the Holy Bible. As
the parent of young children, he needed a simple explanation of the Ten Commandments his whole family
could undertand," the author told us in submitting her manuscripts. That seed planted in Sylvia
Lee Paull's mind grew into this play. Her works have been published in The Living Word,
a bulletin for the prison ministry in Kansas City, Kansas, and two of her devotionals were accepted
by The Upper Room. The Rainclouds Study the Ten Commandments teaches the value of
family devotional time and shows how Christian values are the same as the mandates of the Ten
Commandments. It's an inspiring play and a simple but intelligent study of God's Law.
The play can be performed in a single setting (the front porch of the family home), or
in two settingsthe porch and the living room. The characters are two children and three adults.
Playing time for the entire script is about 30 to 40 minutes; however, each scene may be presented
alone as a short skit. Performing each scene at succeeding sessions of a church youth group is one
of many effective ways of using the script.
