A musical for children of all ages, this bewitching dramatization of
the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm has all the favorite characters: beautiful Snow White
and her father, the good-hearted king; her stepmother, the wicked queen who likes to admire herself
as she chants, "Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all"; the dwarfs, and, of course
the gallant, handsome prince.
The staging of this dramatization can range from the very elaborate and spectacular to the very
simple. Wonderful effects can be achieved by lighting on the barest of stages. The diagrams and
suggestions in the Production Notes at the back of the script show how the premiere production at
Gonzaga University, Spokane, Washington, was mounted with a unit set. Although the play is divided
into 11 scenes, there is no break in the action unless an intermission is desired.
Unlike other dramatizations, no mention is made in this script of Snow White's fair skin so
that performers of any race may play the role. The playwright has added other interesting characters,
and John Dawson has provided an enchanting score and sound effects. Music for the songs is in a
separate piano/vocal score, and fully orchestrated musical accompaniment and all sound effects are on
a cassette tape.
One act, Set, areas are designated for various scenes with minimal scenery arranged in view of
the audience; Fairytale costumes.
