Nashville! The very name is an irresistible lure for composers and
performers of Country and Western music. This play is about one who couldn't resist the lureAlvin
Bunceford, a naive and not very talented songwriter. Accompanied by his fiancee and her parents, Alvin
arrives in Nashville to claim his $5,000 prize for winning an international song contest. But Alvin
is the victim of a scam artist. The song publisher who sponsored the contest, Ram Ramrack, doesn't
have $5,000. In fact, he doesn't even have enough to pay his secretary. His first instinct is to get
rid of this pest, but when he discovers that the father of Alvin's fiancee is a banker, Ram has
visions of uncovering buried treasure. The play glows with romance, intrigue, conflict, suspense,
and lovable and hateful characters (nearly all of whom have written a song). And it has a variety of
music, including Alvin's tearful lament, "There's a Broken Heart for Every Song in Nashville."
(This play is also known as Welcome to Nashville.)
