STATIONS
Playwright
JEROME McDONOUGH
Synopsis
Chrissanne has what at first glance is a simple desire: She wants to serve her God. The problem arises in the way she feels called to serve Him—by becoming a Catholic priest. Her parents are shocked. Her husband and children are confused. Her pastor says no. The only person on her side is a young priest from a neighboring parish. The controversy is intense. The Stations of the Cross provide a framework for the gripping action as Jerome McDonough once again shows his sharp perseption of human nature. Breaking tradition, upsetting the comfortable order of things, clearing new paths through old forests is never easy...as Chrissanne discovers.

With his genius for probing into the depths of human minds and personality, Jerome McDonough gives us a symbolic look at the problems faced by all innovators. Only on New Year's Eve does the human race join voices in cheering "out with the old, in with the new."

One act; Set, flexible indoor spaces; Modern clothes.

Jerome McDonough: "Stations appeared in a variety of standard theatres...Then one last performance was staged in a contemporary Catholic church—St. Thomas the Apostle. The effect was deeply moving. The meaning of the play became crystal clear in that sanctified space. All that Stations cries for seemed suddenly right—and even possible."

Received the highest award in the Eastern New Mexico One-Act Play Festival.
