Here is a Christmas play for adult audiences.
Santa Claus is trying to keep up with the times, even to the point of losing weight. But the
times are too much for him: he is being trampled by government regulations and political correctness.
The Interstate Commerce Commission questions him about transporting goods across state lines. The
State of Alaska wants to know why his vehicle doesn't have a license plate. A labor union official
tries to organize his elves. A woman's libber wants to know why there's not a woman helping distribute
his gifts. Santa throws up his hands in despair and decides to stay home this Christmas. On Santa's
side are his faithful, level-headed wife and his sexy secretary. Who will win?
Here is a good satire on the kind of harassments most adults face daily. Prior to publication
it was produced as a fund raiser by the Hi-Desert Press Club of Barstow, California, and by the
Church of Religious Science in San Bernardino.
Playing time is about 20-25 minutes, depending on music and special effects. With tightening it
can be done as a 10-minute play.
After Sally Bowman's death, her daughter requested that her portion of the royalty payments
from An Old Fashioned Christmas and Will Santa Ever Ride
Again? go to the Salvation Army as a memorial to Sally.
